One simple index index card can help you get organized, by Robert Abitbol; Monday April 21st, 4h 57 am
True story!
I took a long walk a few days ago; beginning of spring walk; everyone in town is happy, balconies start to fill, the sun is hot, people clean up the winter mess.
While walking, I said to my dear self: eh Self :-) wouldn't it be nice if you could make a list of your projects on a small 3 X 5 index card? Just a list and nothing else.
Cool idea.
So I went to the dollar store and I got myself a pack of multicolored index cards.
And how about putting this card in a plastic of some kind? Yeah right on Brother as the Blacks used to say in the sixties.
So I went to the Bank and I asked a plastic for my bank book. :-) Of course I didn't mention I didn't have a bank book since I was not even a customer of the bank. The Indian woman was helpful but not very kind. She didn't have a plastic in her shelves in the commercial section so she went to get me one in another teller's shelves. She handed it to me then closed the curtain.
I put an index card inside. It fitted almost perfectly; a small strip had to be cut however.
I sat at a MacDonald's terrace made the list of my current projects using a pencil so that I could use the same card all the time; I chose a yellow card.
I still hadn't cut the little strip for I had no scissors.
I went to the pharmacy across the street looking for scissors; they all were wrapped so I couldn't simply use them. I left the pharmacy.
Later on, I met a young hippie who had come to Montreal to buy a ferret. We ate a pizza and afterwards I asked him if he had scissors; he said: as a matter of fact I do; I use it to cut my pot.
I cut the strip and I started explaining the concept to the hippie who showed absolutely no interest... Oh well... Perhaps one day he'll realized what he missed. :-)
But hey I couldn't be happier; I have my list of projects on me at all times. Everyday I look at it and I do tasks for each project.
This is the best system I found so far... It couldn't be any simpler and handier...
And since a hippie with a ferret helped me finalize the system with the scissors he is using for his pot, the system is pretty unforgettable.
All you need is an 2 cent index card and a lady at the Bank who believes your story that you need a plastic for your bank book. And a hippie with a ferret who provided you with a pair of scissors....
But hey, if you want to be a little more perfectionist, write down a list of tasks for each project on an index card and stick the card in the plastic...
Try it. This system is sometimes better than a $ 600 laptop! And lighter too! :-)
