Earle Martin
Hey Robert, nice town that you have here in Montreal. Unfortunately I'm too busy with work to spend much time doing other stuff during my stay, otherwise I'd offer to buy you lunch. Maybe in one of those nice places on St-Denis, or up on the Plateau somewhere.
A bientot,
Earle.
Depends if you carry a gun with you or not. :-) I don't want to be the first dead wikizen statistic. :-) Especially these days. :-)
I see you're already familiar with the city. I'd surely like to meet you. Who knows? You could very well be a super-pleasant guy. As Ward has once said: you don't know a guy over a wiki: you know a guy when you go have a beer with him. Since he's the expert, we'll take his word for it. :-) Does it have to be a beer however? :-) Or did he mean when you go have a beer or two or three?
Actually I know a place, a buffet we can go to. I'll invite you. Hey! Since this is my city, I am the one who pays lunch. We'll see if you like to eat as much as you like to delete pages.:-) If I ever go (back) to London, you'll foot the bill. It would have to be in the afternoon because of the bus strike.
You are staying here until when in Montreal? Are you planning to go to the US afterwards? To meet Ward, for example? Are you at the Youth Hostel?
What have you visited so far? Sunir, Mark Dilley and you were at the Rococo Camp. Anyone else I could know that attended the camp?
So tell me about your schedule so we can fit in a buffet. Busy with work? How can that be? The camp is over. You bring work on vacation?
The simplest thing would be for you to tell me your phone number. I'll phone you.
-- Robert Abitbol
On second thought, past the initial enthusiasm, I don't think this is a good idea.
You broke the rules of good, kind behaviour by doing to others what you wouldn't want them to do to you.
The proof? Very clear: you kept on bringing back all your edits on C2 while deleting mine. This is clearly breaking the golden rule. This is not morally acceptable.
| • | You went to Ward to have me banned; you lied to him telling him I was pissing on the wiki which was a blatant lie. All I did is fight guys like you who showed absolutely no respect for others |
| • | You deleted dozens of pages on the C2 wiki |
| • | You screwed up the good atmosphere with your aggressive, unrespectful gnoming |
| • | You called me a kook publicly just to hurt me on a site. I remember vividly how happy you were when the first hit on a Robert Abitbol search was the site where you called me a kook. I told myself: How can this guy get joy from abusing others? At this point I knew you were ill. |
| • | You deleted my name from all my edits on the wiki destroying two years of work. You even went as far as deleting my name from all pages. |
Worse! You single-handedly and progressively killed the wiki in a span of 7 years since the year 2000. Now it is dead thanks to you mainly.
I knew from day one the harm you were causing the wiki. I knew you were a trouble-maker. Ward was not experienced enough in peoples' management to see clear in you. I have that experience for I was a teacher for a long time and I dealt with a few trouble-makers like you.
I honestly believe you're a wiki gangrene. All facts point to that conclusion. I am not inventing anything.
Perhaps your intentions are good but your ways are not. You're like a monkey who chokes a person he likes and ends up killing him/her. Sure his intentions are good but the monkey kills the person nevertheless. There is a French proverb about that idea.
Another proof? You went to Bookshelved a few weeks ago and you tried to start an edit war against me there. You deleted a few pages I started. My answer was clear and unequivocal:
http://bookshelved.org/cgi-bin/wiki.pl?action=browse&id=RobertAbitbol&revision=61
Laurent Bossavit probably warned you and you stopped.
This is also clearly unforgivable.
No I don't think I want to meet you in person nor talk to you. I'll pass.
There are many Robert Abitbols in town. Don't bother others thinking they're me. The name is very common.
You just didn't know when to stop, Earle. You went way too far to amend the harm that you caused. It's too late now.
It was up to you to stop in time. You didn't. Blame it on yourself, on your immaturity, on your foolishness, on your lack of conscience.
You never listened to my advice; I am 25 years older than you. I have way more experience of life than you have. Yet you showed no respect for me, for my judgment, for my advice. You acted like a hooligan.
You have no conscience Earle and this is perhaps the cause underneath all your actions.
No. There won't be a meeting nor a phone conversation between you and I, for what you did is plainly unforgivable and I'll never forgive you for it.
Never do to others what you don't want them to do to you.
You broke the golden rule and now you will have to live for the rest of your life with the reality that someone hates you. I am sure I am not the first one and I won't be the last.
Violence
I saw a documentary on violence in soccer. Hundreds of violent supporters wreacking hacock in stadiums after the game.
These people cannot be reasoned. They like violence, they get off on violence. Violence is their thing. There is nothinh we can do about it apart from repressing their violence through coercition.
Earle Martin is like that. The same way there is no cure for violence in soccer, I believe there is no cure for him.
It was up to Ward Cunningham to see what Earle Martin was up to and to counter him. I told Ward in no uncertain terms that Earle Martin was a trouble-maker. Not only was Ward incapable of doing so but he gave Earle and a few other assorted violent guys like him power by naming them stewards. They killed the wiki.
This is the repetition of the Altamont concert hell when the Rolling Stones asked hell angels to play the police. You don't ask violent guys to play the cops. Violent guys think can only solve conflicts with more violence. You don't solve conflicts with violence. You worsen conflicts with violence, you put oil on fire with violence.
Ward simply does not listen to sound advice. If he had asked Earle Martin to leave his wiki, his wiki would be alive today. Now thanks to Earle Martin and his friends, it's nothing but a cemetaty.

They say Hurt people hurt people.
You have a lot to learn, Earle. But the sad part is since you don't learn from your mistakes, noone wants to bother with you.
Like many others, you are just essentially a lost cause, a total waste of time.
The fact that Ward Cunningham trusted you simply goes to show how bad a manager he is. He is also another waste of time.
I simply have no time for people like you. Life is too short. There are so many great people around, why bother with two of spades?
